Indonesia: Bandung Released Green Building Regulation

The government of Bandung has recently officiated a regulation on green building, which will take into affect on January 1, 2017 to mitigate energy use, CO2 emission, and water consumption from buildings. This is aligned with the city’s ambitious goal to be one of the world’s leading smartest and eco-friendly cities. The regulation states that application for building permit (Izin Mendirikan Bangunan or IMB) may be rejected should the building fails to meet the green building standards.

The Mayor of Bandung, Ridwan Kamil, notes that once the regulation is implemented, the city of Bandung is expected to save energy use and water consumption in buildings in the next five years up to 25% and 40%, respectively. Over 2.7 million sqm of building area are estimated to comply with the green building regulation in Bandung, along with electricity saving of 140 thousands MWh or is valued at USD 16 million (IDR 200 billion). In the next ten years, the number would multiply into IDR 500 billion.
